Station Road, Hook, Hampshire
Hook is in north east Hampshire and is a large village situated close to the A30, just to the north of the M3 at Junction 5, about six miles from Basingstoke. The village is bounded on the east side by the picturesque valley of the River Whitewater, and to the south by two areas of common land – Hook Common and Bartley Heath.
The earliest mention of Hook so far found in historical documents was in relation to a land dispute in the thirteenth century. The village of Hook did not, at that date, exist, but there were a few scattered houses and farms alongside the main road to the south-west of England.
Hook also has many parks and places of natural beauty right on its doorstep. Hook to Rotherwick is a lovely circular walk which is easy for all the family. There are many gyms and clubs locally offering a wide range of activities to suit every interest. There is Tesco supermarket, railway station, church (designed by the same architect responsible for Guildford Cathedral) and a landscaped business park with several big names.
There’s an M3 junction within a very easy drive and a mainline station with London Waterloo reachable in less than an hour. Southampton Airport is 35 mi (56 km) to the south and London Heathrow Airport is 33 mi (53 km) away to the northeast.
Schools in the area include Hook Infant School which is rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted, Hook Junior School and Whitewater Primary School, at Rotherwick, are both ‘good’, and Robert May’s Secondary School at Odiham is also ‘outstanding’.
